due to my obsession with fort cochin i decided to check out the oldest synagogue in Asia....built by the Jews and remodified by the Dutch about 2 years after it was built..Unfortunately i overlooked the fact that today was saturday and today's a day off..and the synagogue was closed!...to make up for it we decided to check out the fort cochin Dutch museum... Apparently a couple of years ago the dutch bombed a temple and they repaid the ruler varma by giving him their palace...which king varma used...as his headquaters and later moved in.
the museum was like a portal that took you back in time, with old drawings on the walls ,of the various kings, of lord krishna and other Hindu gods. there were some remains of the period of the dutch....like some hand made maps of "coychin" and coins ...Stamps..even some old Portuguese outfits in velvet trimmed with gold embroidery...a suit that belonged to king varma..decked in gold embroidery and loads of weaponry.....i was dumbstruck...exitement rushed!
we later went to have lunch at an out door eatery.."la rondez vous". where we could by fresh fish and give it to the cook to make it exactly the way were liked....*sigh*...i wish my trip was a little longer! im already late so i better stop now...will fill you in on more detalis when im on home ground. until then.....live strong and dream on!
